We’ve just rolled out card payments to our events, meaning you don’t have to go via PayPal if you don’t wish.
We have had some reports this year that PayPal weren’t allowing customers to pay by card when using the site on mobile. After a long call with their customer service it transpired this was true and they cited security concerns for this. What wasn’t clear was how long this had been the case or whether they intended to fix it.
So, we’ve slogged away and introduced secure card payments from within our site (no annoying redirects to a third party anymore).
Card payments are currently only on individual events and don’t apply to event series’, but we expect to change that in the next few weeks once the system is fully bedded in.
Additionally, in the near future we’re going to have to change the way we add booking fees. No longer are we allowed to itemise the processing fee in addition to our booking fee. From January 2018 it won’t be legal in the UK to separately charge payment processing fees. As such, we need to incorporate these fees into our booking fee. Because processing fees are calculated as a percentage, it’s likely we’ll need to start calculating our fees as a percentage too (so no simple fixed 25p/50p booking fee). We’re currently in the process of working out what other sites charge so we can guarantee to be the cheapest out there and will make another announcement before the end of the year.
